The artist has given the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 small stages across the UK.

The money helped spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in improving amenities and gear that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that funds from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

In Pulp earned the award in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer Cocker stated that the band would donate their winnings to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist she split her award among a few good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, the band donated their funds to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners M People gave their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in the city and the second in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
