Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
